CSA Week 2026... Why Choose CSA?
Published on February 17, 2026
February 15-22, 2026 is CSA Week! This week is shown to be the most popular week for CSA members to sign up with their farm of choice. To celebrate this week, we will be sharing several posts and give you an opportunity to talk to staff and bring home some fresh veggies from our Farm Stand this Thursday.
Why a CSA?
The CSA model is a direct connection between farmer and consumer. The membership supports the upfront costs of the season (seed, labor, equipment), dispersing the financial burden while getting access to fresh produce at a better value than retail pricing. Many smaller diversified vegetable farms are able to thrive with the support of members who have committed to the season ahead of time. By joining a CSA community you’ll become an integral support for your farm.
By choosing a CSA model and investing in the year’s harvest early you’re usually allowing a smaller farm the freedom to farm the way they choose without needing to cut corners or to follow only the most economically beneficial option. For example, this could include rotating cover crops, planting mixed polyculture fields, providing better support to their workers, or working at a sustainable pace or with the proper equipment. When choosing a CSA farm it’s important to choose one with your shared values as your support can help them better steward the land and soil or fill a role for the local community. For UK-CSA, this also involves support for our working classroom. All income from our CSA goes back to food production and educational activities.
Beyond the financial support, the CSA also functions as its own small community of those interested in sustainable food production. CSA members are more aware of what goes into their food production, even just by gaining awareness of seasonal availability and impact of weather on each week’s harvest. This awareness can lead to a better relationship with the earth and the environment around us. There’s also the relationship with the farm itself, which at UK-CSA is mainly fostered through Farm Stand pickups, you-pick, newsletters and farm potlucks and events. You’ll get to know us along with the other CSA members. We hope you’ll do your research and consider joining a CSA! You can grab your spot with UK's CSA by February 28th to take advantage of our early bird rate.
